This one’s for you.

This election has inspired me to look back at the Civil Rights movement and all those who would be so proud to see what has happened in this country. This post is the first in a series of photos of the men and women who made this election possible, and they are intended as a small tribute to their memory and sacrifices.

Make no mistake, there is still a long way to go. Inequality is high and rising and will be a difficult subject to address given the many other serious challenges facing President-elect Obama. But face it we must: we’ve taken another important step towards equality and our union is more perfect today than it was before, but it can be yet more perfect, and we must continue that struggle, starting tomorrow.
